Learnest is a Community Interest Company (CIC) founded in 2018 by a group of like-minded LGBTQ+ professionals. Many of us are neuro-divergent and live with disabilities and/or mental health complications and we understand how difficult it can be to juggle the world of work with life’s many commitments. From the start, we’ve set out to build Learnest as a home for each other and others like us.
We understand that the world of work can be especially difficult for LGBTQ+ people, with many of us experiencing discrimination and feeling locked out, unsupported and underrepresented in traditional workplace settings.

We’ve hosted events with critically acclaimed artists like David Harewood, Kae Tempest, David Baddiel & Dane Baptiste, hosted events based in Ghanaian, Polish & Yoruba culture, offered support for artists at the beginning of their career and hosted charitable organisations like Age UK, Institute of Imagination and The Prince’s Trust. To date we’ve had over 30,000 visitors through our doors to rehearse, to film, to celebrate, or to experience live theatre, music, comedy or art.
Thick & Tight is an award-winning dance theatre company based in the UK who create a mix of dance, mime, theatre & drag, taking influence from a wide range of historical, political, literary & artistic subjects. Based in ballet and contemporary dance techniques, their choreographic style is intricate, distinctive and musical, incorporating elements of queer performance such as drag, lip-syncing and camp humour, with a close relationship between movement & design. Their work is currently and continually investigating a range of LGBTQ+ issues and figures, current queer culture and its link to dance. At the heart of their practice they develop their choreography, storytelling and teachings in relation to these issues with a hope to keep developing positive narratives within the dance ecology & beyond.
