Reflections of a Marly Mate - Noë Warren 2019
The Marlborough Pub and Theatre is a Queer Institution in Brighton, having existed in one form or another for decades. This project looked at what the Marlborough meant to members of the Queer community of Brighton. For many, it was a place of refuge, of solace, a place to find community, and given th very reasonable prices, a place to lose yourself.
I managed The Marlborough for a brief stint, and it was a period where my life shifted. While I have been happily gay my whole life, it was the place where I truly began to question and explore my queer identity. Far more than just being about who I slept with, queerness to me has become a form of activism, a form of refuting societal expectations, and a statement of my truth.
